The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
The Truth the Mormon Missionaries will not tell you when they knock on your door!
The Book of Mormon - Chloroform In Print "The book is a curiosity to me, it is such a
pretentious affair, and yet so "slow," so sleepy; such an insipid mess of
inspiration. It is chloroform in print. If Joseph Smith composed this
book, the act was a miracle--keeping awake while he did it was, at any
rate." Mark Twain
There is an overwhelming amount of evidence that proves the Book of Mormon is largely plagiarised from a number of sources, is inconsistent with what we know of science and archeology , contradicts not only the bible but itself and has been changed and updated over the years in an attempt to hide various facts about it and the Mormon church.
My first point: If Joseph Smith did actually translate it from gold plates he supposedly found on a hill by his backyard in 1823 in Upstate New York? Why would he translate it into 15th Century English? Both written and spoken English had evolved enormously in the couple of hundred years since the KJV Bible translation.
My Conclusion: He was desperate to try and make it sound biblical (however poorly) and in 1823 Biblical sounding meant sounding like the KJV Bible.
My favourite Book of Mormon site: The Skeptics Annotated Book of Mormon shows quite clearly the hundreds of passages which were lifted directly from the King James Version of the bible. It also points out among other things a lot of the changes between the original version of TBOM and more recent versions, some of the contradictions within TBOM and quite a few scientific problems.
I've included an example of each, but again please if you are truly interested in the truth, follow the link above to see the rest - literally hundreds.
The Book of Mormon
1 Nephi 22:20
And the Lord will surely prepare a way for his people, unto the fulfilling of the words of Moses, which he spake, saying: A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass that all those who will not hear that prophet shall be cut off from among the people.
The Bible (KJV)
For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.
1 Nephi 18:25
And it came to pass that we did find upon the land of promise, as we journeyed in the wilderness, that there were beasts in the forests of every kind, both the cow and the ox, and the ass and the horse, and the goat and the wild goat, and all manner of wild animals, which were for the use of men. And we did find all manner of ore, both of gold, and of silver, and of copper.
None of these domesticated animals existed in the Americas before the Europeans brought them over 2000 years later.
2 Nephi 5:15
And I did teach my people to build buildings, and to work in all manner of wood, and of iron, and of copper, and of brass, and of steel, and of gold, and of silver, and of precious ores, which were in great abundance.
2 Nephi 5:16
And I, Nephi, did build a temple; and I did construct it after the manner of the temple of Solomon save it were not built of so many precious things; for they were not to be found upon the land....
2 Nephi 30:6
And then shall they rejoice; for they shall know that it is a blessing unto them from the hand of God; and their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a white and delightsome people.
2 Nephi 30:6
And then shall they rejoice; for they shall know that it is a blessing unto them from the hand of God; and their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a pure and delightsome people. Post the 1978 revelation which eventually stopped the church's institutional discrimination of black people "White" was changed to "pure" to try to soften the obvious racism of this prophecy.
Purely Laughable Something I read on the tube to work the other day, which actually made me laugh out loud...(Slightly embarrassing)
1 Ether 15:31
And it came to pass that after he had smitten off the head of Shiz, that Shiz raised upon his hands and fell; and after that he had struggled for breath, he died.
So... Shiz, with no head raised himself upon his hands? Is it just me or is there something wrong with that statement?
And then he struggled for breath? So, was it the body or the decapitated head that was trying to breath?
